Litany of Commitment

Here’s a litany of commitment written by Katherine Hawker.

Litany of Commitment

To each of us is given a branch of life,
to be used at our desecration.
May we decide to plant ourselves in rich soil.

To each of us is given a portion of sun and rain and nourishment,
but still we choose whether we will enjoy the gifts.
May we choose to drink deeply
of the sustenance around us.

To each of us is given an audience with the Gardener;
will we decide to accept the invitation?
May we decide to heed
the wisdom of the Gardener.

To each of us is given the opportunity for success,
and also the opportunity to not succeed.
May we choose to flourish
with the life God offers.
